This class is a great wake-up practice, whether done in the morning or any other time of day. It will prepare you for a longer work-out, serve as a recovery practice, or stand alone as a vital part of your everyday self-care routine. Whether you are a beginner or an old pro, you can build your capacity for both physical strength and relaxation, along with mental alertness and calm.
Originally recorded from a Morning Yoga Retreat class on Zoom, the sequence is designed to help ground you, awaken your brain with a warm-up to improve your sensory input, and prepare you to move with greater awareness, power, and ease.
We begin with breathing, eye exercises, and cranial nerve practices. Then we wake up the whole body and the communication/nerve channels from the hips down to the toes, from the neck and shoulders down to the fingers, from the tailbone to the crown of your head.
The sensory warm-up itself can serve as a practice for better movement, awareness, and longevity (I believe).
We do joint mobilizations for the neck, elbows, and fingers, as well as the spine, hips, legs, and feet. And even manage to include a half dozen fundamental yoga poses!
If you want a 20 minute practice that you can do almost anywhere and gives you a foundation for a lifetime of good movement, this might be it.
